Blogs are great educational tools because they encourage cooperative and social constructivist learning.
Cooperative learning is a teaching strategy in which students of different levels of ability form groups to build their knowledge and improve their understanding of a subject. Each member of the group is not only responsible for learning what is taught but also for helping group members learn, thus enhancing the learning experience of each of the students. This type of learning is can be easily accomplished by having students participate in blog discussions on questions posted by a teacher.
Social Constructivism is when students interact with others to reach their learning goals. When students share and discuss ideas and concepts with their peers as with blog discussions, their learning and knowledge building is significantly enhanced.
